Dear Friends of Greentown Labs,

After our proud beginning in Boston’s Innovation District, made possible through the generous support of the City of Boston, we are moving and expanding in August to a cool, bigger space in Somerville just a few minutes walk from Harvard Square (or faster on a Hubway bike!).

We ask for your help. Our organization relies on sponsors, donations, fees and rent to support our companies and the cleantech community – and to grow! We invite Friends of Greentown Labs benefiting from the community we’ve built to consider donating to our $275,000 “Greentown Grows Up Capital Campaign” that runs through September 15. We’ve Outgrown Our Space

Yet demand for our space from startups has never been greater. Our new location will allow us to grow our vibrant community of energy entrepreneurs and continue to serve as a center of gravity for cleantech innovation. Our company founders and their teams will be able to keep operating in affordable, co-located prototyping and office space and we’ll welcome new companies off of our waiting list.

We’ve Grown Up

We began just two years ago by a few energy entrepreneurs who needed a low-cost space to make stuff. Now, we’re a home for people to visit, convene, connect, share and dream up new ways to address big energy challenges. Today, we accommodate 5,000 visitors annually, hold or host dozens of events that last up to an entire weekend, and manage an ongoing network and initiatives like our regular EnergyBar events. We believe an improved, custom-designed space can do all of this and more.

We’re Following Innovation

And our entrepreneurs. Somerville is emerging as another innovation cluster, home to many entrepreneurs as well. Mayor Curtatone of Somerville strongly supports our move to his City. We fit his vision to build an affordable, accessible innovation economy with a focus on sustainable businesses. Located at 28 Dane Street, we’ll be next door to other entrepreneurs and creative people working, playing and hanging out at Artist’s Asylum, Brooklyn Boulders, and Cambridge Innovation Center satellite office, all in a neighborhood filled with good food, diversity, culture and entertainment.

Things are moving fast. We’re beginning construction - we can’t wait to finish and show you our new space! Thank you for all your support that has gotten us to this point.

Our Challenge

We face a growing global population and the resources required to meet expanding demand is today's most pressing challenge. New ways of producing and consuming energy are necessary to address this problem while minimizing further damage to our environment. We believe entrepreneurs are capable of innovating and inventing solutions to address this challenge with access to the right tools, resources, network and support. The relentless human energy of a few scientists, engineers, and business people can make a big difference. Why do we believe all of this? Because we see it every day.

Welcome to Greentown Labs

We enable entrepreneurs to solve big energy problems. Our mission is to enable a vibrant community of entrepreneurs to work on their visions and to provide access to the space, resources, and funding that allows their early-stage companies to thrive. In our new location, in Somerville, MA, just 3.5 miles from downtown Boston, we offer 33,000 sq. ft. of prototyping lab and co-located office space, a shared machine shop and electronics shop, immersion in a growing community of energy and clean technology entrepreneurs, and on-site events and programs designed to enable start-ups to rapidly grow their networks and their companies.
